This relatively short book aims to provide both a historic overview and a theoretic framework for analyzing the formation and conceptualization of Russia's national interest, with particular emphasis on Russia's historic and evolving relationship with the West. The book contains a chronology of Russian foreign policy from 1985 to the present, and relies on many original Russian-language sources. The work is divided into eight chapters, with a historic overview, a basic introduction to international relations theory and its implications for understanding Russian foreign policy, as well as chapters on Gorbachev's new thinking, Russia as great-power balancer, Russia as great-power pragmatist, and Russia as an assertive great power. It concludes by analyzing prospects for change and continuity in Russian foreign policy. Recommended.

Book came in less than described condition

Not only is there a LOT more highlighting, writing and underlining in this book than was originally described, it's the WRONG EDITION! I ordered the 2010 edition (2nd) and instead got the 2006 first edition, the problem is i have to use if for a class and don't have time to reorder, but there are 2 chapters missing from this one!

Misadvertising at its best, will not purchase from this seller again.

If you really care about making a change

This book will make you think and if you care about your environment and lives you will make the changes. The changes are not hard but will take effort.

I am not a highly educated person but try to learn all the time. High school education is the extent of my "book schooling" but I have learned from a few people and from my many mistakes. I love the outdoors and animals and have tried to do things right for each. Most people around me (some very educated) do not care about nature just how much they can get out of something to make a profit in the shortest amount of time without thinking about what they are doing to their animals or land. They wonder why their animals are not getting pregnant and why their grass is getting thinner even though they put on the fertilizer they were told to. This book has the answers.

I bought this book to help with my pastures but it has helped with so much more. There are many books out there on the subject but Mr. Savory explains it in great detail with common sense and actually gives you a plan to follow. His mistakes, yes he owns up to them and accepts responsibility for them, takes you through them so you can see how he progressed in his thinking and experience.

His quote about "true profit" will hang in every area I work to remind me of the Whole. Thanks Mr. Savory you have inspired me!!!

I'm a happy camper.

Holistic Management has been on my to-read list for a while now, and I'm kicking myself for not having gotten to it sooner. Having had some experience managing land and livestock, I mistakenly underestimated Mr. Savory and assumed this book would be a big, complicated grazing system manual - part primer and part groundbreaking grazing methods. Not so. To the extent that he described basic ecological processes and management tools that your typical MIG practitioner would already know well, he did so under the scope of his holistic decision-making framework, which is the real prize here. As a pleasant plus, his writing style is the soft it's-so-simple-that-I-can't-believe-I-never-thought-of-that voice which tempers the fact that he's repeatedly blowing your mind with paradigm-shattering ideas and explaining the current reality of our world with such succinctness that frustrates me, because I know I'll never be able to relay this information to others with the same clarity and articulation. As you can likely tell, I'm not ashamed to admit that I frequently pitched a tent while working my way through HM - yet another pleasant bonus.

That being so, and judging by Mr. Savory's broad success among his diverse clientele, this book needs to be on the shelf of every head-of-household, business owner/exec, store or service manager, state and social worker, etc. It will be well worth your time to work your way through it, even if you find yourself having to skip over the sections where he delves into grazing and crop management (though it would be well worth your time to read those parts too). What's nice is that the tools, scalable-management guidelines, and testing questions he provides all have stand-alone value, meaning you can immediately benefit from simply selecting and studying suitable sections. Of course, the true benefits will come with the complete adoption of his management system, so I'd at least encourage you to peruse these pages and test his framework on aspects of your life.

Do the world a favor - buy it; read it; live it.

Brilliant and common sense

Great Book on a vitally important subject. The more I read Allan Savory's ideas and thoughts, the more convinced I am that he is a genius in the field of the potential of the use of animals in range management. His is not a quick fix solution, but a common sense total plan that I think will do more to turn around desertification than anything else we can do.

This book presents the mathematics that underpins pricing models for derivative securities, such as options, futures and swaps, in modern financial markets. The idealized continuous-time models built upon the famous Black-Scholes theory require sophisticated mathematical tools drawn from modern stochastic calculus. However, many of the underlying ideas can be explained more simply within a discrete-time framework. This is developed extensively in this substantially revised second edition to motivate the technically more demanding continuous-time theory, which includes a detailed analysis of the Black-Scholes model and its generalizations, American put options, term structure models and consumption-investment problems. The mathematics of martingales and stochastic calculus is developed where it is needed.

The new edition adds substantial material from current areas of active research, notably:

a new chapter on coherent risk measures, with applications to hedging

a complete proof of the first fundamental theorem of asset pricing for general discrete market models

the arbitrage interval for incomplete discrete-time markets

characterization of complete discrete-time markets, using extended models

risk and return and sensitivity analysis for the Black-Scholes model

The treatment remains careful and detailed rather than comprehensive, with a clear focus on options. From here the reader can progress to the current research literature and the use of similar methods for more exotic financial instruments.

The text should prove useful to graduates with a sound mathematical background, ideally a knowledge of elementary concepts from measure-theoretic probability, who wish to understand the mathematical models on which the bewildering multitude of current financial instruments used in derivative markets and credit institutions is based. Robert J. Elliott is RBC Financial Group Professor of Finance at the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary, having held positions in mathematics at the University of Alberta, Hull, Oxford, Warwick, and Northwestern. He is the author of over 300 research papers and several books, including Stochastic Calculus and Applications, Hidden Markov Models (with Lahkdar Aggoun and John Moore) and, with Lakhdar Aggoun, Measure Theory and Filtering: Theory and Applications. Be careful of typos!

This book provides a speedy but readable and comprehensive approach to financial math. For a slower and more careful approach to the mathematics, especially with regard to local martingales and the construction of the stochastic integral, I recommend Steele. An important warning about the 2nd edition of Elliott and Kopp is that Chapter 7, the longest and most important chapter in the book, which covers continuous time European options and the Greeks, is *rife* with typos: incorrect subscripts, superscripts and signs, mixed up or missing variables in expressions, backwards inequalities, etc. This chapter was clearly not edited carefully, and can be a little frustrating to read.

This book discusses the financial mathematics from the view of martingale approaches. It is good for someone who want to price derivatives by martingale approach. Unfortunately, this book lacks talking about exotic options like average options,lookback options and passport options.

Excellent - Good Mathematical Level

Does an excellent job of presenting the mathematics WITH RIGOR. The mathematics is more mature than Bingham & Kiesel, but the book is more accessible and far more readable than the similar texts by Karatzas & Shreve and Musiela & Rutkowski.

Non-stop action and attitude

Leto delivers FIRE!

Julie Leto has been one of the top writers to emerge from Harlequin's Blaze line.
She is a sassy, sexy author that loves people, loves her characters. She likes to dance on the razor thin edge of the envelope, is unflinching in her sexuality of those characters, so you could see Leto would soon want to spread her wings and walk on the wild side with a wee bit more 'elbow room'. She gets it with this Downtown Press title Dirty Little Secrets. On the ARC (Advanced Reading Copy) I received, it has a neat red and black Chit Lit style cover. I see they have updated it to give you a female James Bond feel. Whatever the cover, the package within is dynamite!
Leto is launching a new series, featuring a sexy, kick (...), Latina bounty hunter. She is not the stay at home Chiquita, but loves danger and chases it with a passion. She is also passionate about ex-boyfriend Francisco Vega. She hasn't seen her old love for ten years. A broken heart that never healed, sees her going after Frankie when he skips out on bail. Now, he's in the cross-hairs of her target for more reasons than one. She tracks him down to one of their old haunts, a Tampa dance club, and sets about to seduce the lad into her clutches.
Only, Frankie is on his own agenda. He's world is dangerous, deadly, as he moved through the underworld of arm dealers, killers and dirty dealings on the major level. Marisela is a complication he didn't need, only there is no shaking her. Not that he really wants to, mind you. So Marisela is pulled into Frankie's shady side of town, she has to prove there is more than one way to get her man.
This book sizzles with Leto's sharp writing. However, fans of Leto, understand this is not typical romance. This is adventure series where manhunting is literal!! The romance between Marisela and Frankie is typical Leto singe your fingers because the pages are too hot, but this is not category romance.
Kudos for gusty Leto for stepping up to the challenge and leaving the safe nest of Harlequin Blaze to deliver this outstanding novel!

DEFINITE page turner!!!

This book is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!! It was full of thrills, laughs, romance...all around great book. I couldn't put it down and finished it within a few days. The whole time reading I could picture the book playing out in my head - This would make an amazing movie/series. Thankfully this book is the 1st in a series so there will be more to come. Anyone thinking of buying this book - DO SO - you will not regret it. I can't wait for the 2nd book to come out.

Single best instruction manual on the major lifts

I have been lifting weights for almost 40 years. I have a couple dozen books on weightlifting, powerlifting, and bodybuilding which I have read and reread and used in the gym. This is one of the top 3 must-have books for the weightlifter. I bought it over a year ago, and it taught me things about technique that I did not know. For instance, I've always been a very strong bench-presser, but this book taught me that my hands were in the wrong position. Just a slight adjustment, as demonstrated in the book, has taken the pressure off my wrists.

Age has reduced my strength somewhat over the last 5 years. But the excellent explanation of technique in this book enabled me to bring my deadlift weight to within 20 pounds of my top weight from 35 years ago.

But probably the single best part of the book is the extensive instruction on the squat. I'd given up on the squat, using leg press only, for the last 20 years because I kept injuring my lower back. But this book has helped me make some major adjustments in squat technique, from position of elbows (back), to position of bar on the back (lower), to proper flare of the knees (wide). After practicing technique with light weights for a few sessions, everything clicked into place. I've now been squatting injury-free for over a year.

If you think, like I did, that you know how to perform the major lifts, unless you've had coaching or have read this book, you probably don't.

I recommend this book unreservedly, for young and old weightlifters.

Best, most balanced, credible book I've seen.... (ex physiology teaching fellow)

This book is simply amazing and appeals to a wide audience. This is evidenced by all the 5 star reviews and to my knowledge no reviews marked lower. I was skeptical that it could really be that good, but it exceeded by expectations in every respect.

This book contains very detailed instructions on how to correctly perform the core lifts of the squat, dealift, press, and power cleans. It explains how to do them correctly, why they work, contains good references, excellent diagrams and all the fine points you need to know collected all in one place.

If this book has a real fault, I haven't found it. It is dense with material and as far as I'm concerned worth it's weight in gold. If you are even thinking of performing squats and dealifts without it, I would recommend it as cheap insurance that you get these lifts EXACTLY right.

In addition, Starting Strength is humorous and easy to follow. He takes a swipe at orthopedic surgeons who have never been inside a gym to lift weights or don't understand the biomechanics of proper exercise technique and then goes on to cite the number of powerlifters who do this regularly without any significant back injuries compared to the general population.

This is a must buy for anyone serious about weightlifting. It is particularly useful to hard-gainers, people getting into weight lifting and seasoned lifters who are skeptical of the value and safety of core movements as the basis of building mass.

Not making progress? READ THIS BOOK!

I thought I knew how to bench. Nope. I thought I knew how to squat. No way. I thought I knew what an overhead press was. Negative.

I have been lifting since college (I am now in my late twenties, so about 10 years). Only after I read Starting Strength can I say that I am confident with the big 3 barbell lifts: squat, bench press, and deadlift.

This should be mandatory reading prior to setting foot in a real weight room.

Relevant, Necessary, Comprehensive and Potentially Transformational

In today's connected, complex world, where the ability to cultivate and sustain trusting relationships with myriad stakeholders is vital to personal and organisational credibility, ethical leadership has never been more needed. Countless recent scandals are testament to the sad fact that the demand for such leadership has frequently been let down by its supply. From the exploitation of garment workers in Bangladesh to the underwhelming figures on employee engagement in most countries, there is a sense that we are frequently let down by those who lead us. And yet there are multitudes who want to collaborate well across increasingly global boundaries to address the numerous universal issues that threaten the stability and sustainability of our world. It must bewilder many Christians that teachers and preachers using the same Bible can come up with so many different interpretations and, more particularly, applications of God’s Word. One of the main reasons for this confusion is their handling of the word ‘covenant’, which is so fundamental to scripture. The two key questions are: how many covenants has God made with human beings and how many of these apply to Christians today? Some say there is only one (‘the covenant of grace’) running right through scripture, though they might add a second (‘a covenant of works’) which applied only to Adam in Eden. Most think there are two (the ‘old’ and the ‘new’) corresponding to the Old and the New ‘Testaments’ (a synonym for ‘covenant’). Others claim to have found seven (though they usually call them ‘dispensations’). This author believes there are five which are basic to the story of our redemption – the Noahic, Abrahamic, Mosaic, Davidic and Messianic. Only one of these is ‘old’ and therefore obsolete; only one is ‘new’ but endorses the other three. With this insight we can ‘rightly divide the word of truth’ (2 Timothy 2:15; NIV has ‘correctly handle’). See if you agree!

About the Author
David Pawson was born in 1930. His father was a Methodist minister and his grandfather, a Professor of Agriculture. David, however, began his career with a degree in Agriculture at Durham University, England. With a newly acquired farm in Scotland, David was surprised when God intervened and led him to become a Christian minister. After completing an MA in Theology at Cambridge University, David became a chaplain in the Royal Air Force for three years. He then moved on to pastor a number of churches in England including the Millmead Centre in Guildford where under David’s caring leadership, the church became a model for many UK church pastors. His time at Millmead was also his most fruitful in terms of the library of his audio teachings. In 1979 David was released from the Millmead Centre to fulfill a wider international ministry. David now has an itinerant ministry predominantly to church leaders world wide. Millions of copies of his audio Bible teachings have been distributed to over 120 countries. He is a writer and speaker of urgency, clarity and uncompromising faithfulness to the Scriptures. He is widely considered to be one of the world’s finest biblical expositors.

TWIN-Vaccine: Against both Replacement and One Law (NEO-Galatian) Theologies.

As David Pawson has said (I'm here paraphrasing him from memory), if Satan cannot keep someone OUT of something, he will push them TOO FAR into it. In other words, whereas God's will for disciples is a BALANCED theology, and a daily walk on the narrow and STRAIGHT Way, Satan endeavors to dog someone with IMBALANCE, in whatever area it may be. God's will is LIBERTY; whereas Satan and unseen enemies in the heavenly places are looking to lead disciples to the left or the right; into the swamps of LICENSE or LEGALISM. Indeed, there are two errors regarding Israel which stand on either side of plumb: Replacement Theology on one side; One Law Theology (or Neo-Galatianism) on the other.

An oversimplification of course, but in a nutshell, instead of building their theology from Genesis (1:1) UPWARDS, Replacement Theology folk (i.e., those into TULIP Theology) have built it from Romans (9:6) OUTWARDS (in both directions; I.e., reading their ideas back to Genesis, and on to Revelation); One Law folk meanwhile, instead of building their theology from Genesis (1:1) TO Revelation (22:21), have built it TO Matthew (5:20).

Replacement Theology: In Scripture, Israel is an Olive Tree into which wild branch Gentiles are grafted and connected to Israel (and to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob); but in effect (courtesy of Replacement Theology), for almost 2,000 years, Israel has been seen as something of a (God-forsaken) CATERPILLAR; and "Christianity" has been a conceited (and imaginary) Grace-BUTTERFLY; worse still, a butterfly that considers herself to be "The NEW Israel." Evangelism in Acts is FRUITION-based - not some new religion/faith, but the FRUITION of the HOPE of the fathers: Acts 2:29-31; 3:13-16,22-26; 5:30-31; 9:20; 10:42-43; 13:32-42; 17:1-3; 22:3,14; 23:1; 24:14-16; 26:6-7,22-23; 28:23. A new faith/religion?!

One Law (Neo-Galatian) Theology: In a nutshell, One Law folk think that the more a Gentile disciple matures in the faith, the more they will see that God wants them to keep the Law of Moses, along with Jewish disciples (or as they would put it, to keep the Torah); or in other words, they think ethnic differences should fade away, as both Jew and Gentile alike come under One Law. Yes indeed, it is true to say that in Messiah Yeshua there is neither Jew nor Gentile [i.e., no difference between the two]; but that is in regard to being co-heirs of the promise made to Abraham - it is not in regard to 24/7 everyday living (i.e., dietary laws and so on). For it must not be forgotten that it also says that in Messiah Yeshua there is neither male nor female, and that obviously means only in relation to being co-heirs; not in terms of living without regard to gender differences!! One Law folk need to see that just as gender differences do not vanish in Messiah; neither to ethnic/culture differences.

In Scripture (noting especially the following: Acts 15, and the resultant letter to the Gentile churches; Romans 7:1-8:17; and the entire letter of Galatians), we find that WITH THE FRUITION of the Abrahamic HOPE and PROMISE (in the Person of Yeshua; and the New Covenant in His blood), WHEREAS in pre-Golgotha days the Jews were called to walk a straight and narrow path by rules/regulations/LAWS (i.e., by commands), the risen, exalted and appointed Judge of the living and the dead now wants to BAPTIZE/IMMERSE His Jewish [and Gentile] disciples in the HOLY Spirit - so that they may now walk a straight path through life not by mere regulations, but by conscious RELATIONSHIP with the One who gave those regulations/laws: the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob; in the Person of the HOLY Spirit (and not laws on EXTERNAL STONE, which are observed by OLBLIGATION; but laws on the INTERNAL heart, which are adhered to by INCLINATION). Problem is, because of intellectual, dry and seriously sub-scriptural evangelism (for centuries), a Scriptural reception of the Holy Spirit has been shelved; and as a result, some (like the One Law folk), who are therefore (sincere but experientially) short-changed, now want to bring Jew and Gentile disciples back to walking by external regulation. (Note: Many/most Reformed Theology advocates - who are into Replacement Theology - are in the same boat as the One Law guys: they also lack a conscious relationship with the HOLY Spirit).

To uphold the Tanakh (Genesis to Malachi) as a priceless treasure that is "profitable for teaching" (for both Jew and Gentile alike) is as it should be; likewise, to point out that the New Covenant is no command-free zone is no problem either (!!!: Matthew 28:18-20; John 14:15-24; 1 Corinthians 7:19-20; 1 John 2:3-6; 2 John 6). That said, to think that Gentile disciples are to basically fly in the face of Acts 15 and Galatians is another story altogether.

This little book of David serves to humbly call both sides towards plumb: The Replacement guys (who have - in effect - de-BONED Holy Scripture; I call it EvanJELLYcal Theology!), are called back to a scriptural regard for the five covenants God has made, and to a scriptural regard for God's covenant people - Israel/the Jews. The One Law guys meanwhile (indeed, the Replacement guys too), need to pay very close attention indeed, to what David has to say about receiving and KNOWING the Holy Spirit (crucially, David has included his personal testimony; in which he relates how he received the Holy Spirit, in a manner consistent with Acts 2:4/8:18/10:44-47/19:6).

BTW: In the diagram on page 35 (paperback edition), in the bottom left-hand square, instead of putting "PARTY Who with?" (in regard to the Messianic Covenant as David calls it - "The New Covenant with Israel" being a longer but more accurate title), David has instead put who ANNOUNCED and ACHIEVED it. Therefore, in that square, I believe it should instead say something like this: "(With) Israel; but AVAILABLE to (and ATONEMENT made for) ALL MANKIND."

Prevention of course, is far easier than cure. Whether it be Replacement, One Law, or whatever other area of theological imbalance, pride can soon build up in its adherents, and thus make unlearning almost impossible. So perhaps the greatest service this little book provides, is to give new disciples a very helpful X-Ray of Scripture (showing them the Covenant BONEWORK of Holy Writ), which basically enables them to thereafter see Scripture Forest despite the trees (as well as inoculating them from both Replacement and One Law thinking).

The Covenant BONEWORK of Scripture being as follows:

The Covenant with Noah, his descendants, and every living creature.
The Covenant with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
The OLD (Tutor) Covenant with Israel the nation.
The Covenant with King David.
The New Covenant with Israel (Jeremiah 31; Luke 22:20).

Covenants of ROOT, STEM and FLOWER:

The Covenant with Noah his descendants, and every living creature, being as David rightly says, a covenant of SURVIVAL.
The Covenant with King David being one of KINGHOOD.
As for the Covenant with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and the OLD and NEW Covenants with Israel, I want to call them the FOOTSTEP Covenants: footsteps of lifestyle/faith; a straight and narrow walk to the new Jerusalem (whose Architect and Builder is God). I also want to picture them as Covenants of ROOT, STEM and FLOWER (or if you prefer, ROOT, TRUNK and BRANCHES): The Covenant with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob being the PROMISE-based ROOT of the matter; the STEM being the Old (TUTOR) Covenant with Israel (see Galatians 3:19-26); and the FLOWER being the New Covenant with Israel, whereby the Abrahamic (ROOT and PROMISE-based) Covenant comes into full bloom.

I do think it would be more accurate to say the NEW Covenant is with Israel (Jeremiah 31:31-14; Hebrew 8:8-12), than to say (like David does) that it is with the Messiah. But that aside, this is one of the most helpful books that David has ever written. I have already portrayed it as a Bible X-Ray, I'd also call it a highly informative BROAD-BRUSH balloon ride from Genesis to Revelation: David provides the insight; you just bring the binoculars!

There are two other books in particular, which complement what David has said: one relative to Replacement Theology; and one relative to the sincere but relationally dry foundations of One Law (and Replacement) Theology.

Defending Christian Zionism If Israel is not in your theological jigsaw, your picture is seriously unscriptural.

Jesus Baptises in one Holy Spirit David Pawson has served Yeshua from the age of 17; but, it was not until another seventeen years had passed (in 1964), that he understood what it was to RECEIVE and be BAPTIZED/IMMERSED in the Holy Spirit in a manner consistent with Scripture/Acts (the prologue contains his testimony). David does not want anyone else to have to wait that long; his own inadequate initiation perhaps explains why making sure people have been PROPERLY evangelized is one of the biggest burdens of his life.

General Comment: I've read dozens of books ABOUT Scripture: autobiographies; accounts of so-called "Church History"; Scripture overviews; and books that tackle various heresies. But I have limited my book reviews on Amazon, to the mere fraction that I would recommend to others: to books which collectively bring people up to speed on the last 2,000 years; and which provide both vaccine and remedy against some of the most pernicious teachings that have arisen - including (but alas, not only!) Replacement Theology; Replacement SPOUSE-ology (divorce and "remarriage"); Cessationism; Eternal Security (OSAS; Calvinism/Reformed Theology); PRE-Trib Theology ("Dispensationalism"); "Sinner's Prayer" (and largely BINITARIAN) evangelism; and the (1 Samuel 8 DEJA VU) Building-Pulpit-Pew model.

Scripture teachers have a tendency to bring out book after book (after book!); authoring perhaps a lifetime total of millions of fallible words. Add a few teachers together, and you're talking TENS of millions of fallible words; thereby reducing the 800,000 words of Holy Scripture, to a drop in the ocean of (albeit sincere) DISTORTION. Worse still (and deny it to the hilt though many readers will), that ocean of distortion embedded between their ears, becomes the HEAD (and a theological lens/VEIL); Scripture the TAIL.
